DB were unorganized before kick off with the bare 11 available to start and one of our strikers having to pull the keeper jersey on for the first 20mins of the game. With 5 players out of postition, it didn’t take long for Spartans to start to pick holes in DBs organization and the first 20 mins was a bombardment if quick Spartans ball play and exposing our defenders 1 on 1. Some very handy saves from scotty in the first half saw DB stay in the game however a disallowed goal to Spartans was the last amount of luck DB had. After a couple of DB corners where the threat was minimal, Spartans broke down the right hand side and managed to skip around a few DB midfielders. The Spartans winger then drew in both centre backs before cutting a ball back to the top of the 18 yard box where an unmarked Spartans winger was able to slot it in with relative ease. 1-0 Spartans. DB finally clicked in to gear when there centre back Dan and keeper arrived and they began to take it to the Spartans players. Leo was having a blinder at left back and showing great composure while Kafi has a couple of chances late in the half but couldn’t find the target. With less than 10 to go, the Spartans centre mid picked the ball up outside his own 18 and weaves through the DB midfield and wing before rounding the defensive line with ease and spotting in to the bottom corner. Very poor defending and 2-0 to Spartans going in to half time. Some reshuffling at half time so matt H come in to the midfield, LT to right back and Kafi up front and it seemed to give us the spark we needed. Before long Matt and the midfield began to take control and some chances were being created across the park. Some handy keeping at the other end kept DB in it and LT had some great last man defending to stop the pacey Spartans attack. Matty H picked the ball up on half way and made a brilliant solo run down the left hand side skinning the Spartans full back. He then squared a lovely ball to Kafi who could tap in to the open goal and make it 2-1 after 15. After some peppering on the DB goal, a long ball over the top of Spartans defense from Alex saw Kafi one on one with the keeper and he flicked it over to what looked like the leveler, however the Spartans defender made a goal line save whilst DB watched on for a corner to be given. Spartans continued to press for a 3rd and DB new it had to make the most of the aggressive approach and try and slot one on the counter. The opportunity came through some handy play down the right hand side through Matty, Gabe and Enzo before a shot that was goalbound was deliberately hand balled by the Spartans defender to keep it out. A penalty was awarded and DB had the chance to level it at 2-2 with 15 to go. Kafi stepper to take the corner and hit it low and to the right for a comfortable save for the Spartans keeper. This seemed to deflate DB and everyone’s heads dropped, allowing a quick counter from Spartans and a well spotted 1v1 made it 3-1. With less than 2 mins to go and all of DB pressing forward, Spartans scored a late scramble to make it 4-1 in a miserable day for DBFC. Leo played extremely well and deserves the DB man of the match.
