Cheerleaders: Big Scott Holmes and Bungle (Matt Mills).
Last game before Xmas and the promise of a healthy kitty behind the pier bar resulting in DBFC getting a very strong side together, on paper. On the day however, it was revealed that Christian needed stabilizers to ride a bike, as falling off Jamie Bone’s bike resulted in a back injury rendering him incapable of playing! In addition, Steve Lang forgot to change trains at Admiralty on to the blue line and ended up 10 minutes late for kick off.
Fortunately, Vegan Rodders had listened to the DBFC management and had a solid morning meal consisting of hummus, eggplant, crushed pepper corns complimented with a balsamic vinegar and olive oil glaze and some gluten free bread sourced from Nepal. Rodders, for once, had some colour in his face and looked healthy.
Even better, with Matthias Zoeller back in the fold, and finally showing an attitude of actually wanting to be there, we were confident we would keep a clean sheet with the stubborn Irishman not letting anyone past.
Halder took the warm up, everyone in good spirits and Matt Orr the life and soul of the party, cracking jokes at will supported by his sidekick Ben.
The first half started well with DBFC in control. Pascal and Matt Orr were bossing the midfield and with Zoeller playing every bit like his lookalike and countryman Richard Dunne – the defense was solid. Chance after chance was created, and subsequently spooned over by Halder, or hit onto the post or keeper by young Jordon. Eventually however, our pressure told and we went one nil up via a mistake from the Spatans keeper, who passed it to Jordon for him to round the keeper and slot into an empty net.
This gave David, who’s boot had ripped apart, the opportunity to come off for Steve Lang.
DBFC continued to press and eventually got the second goal after a great cross from Darius saw Jordon head the ball into an empty net at the far post. DBFC were still able to hit the post, miss an open goal and squander a one on one before the half ended.
The half time team talk was positive. Spartans are a good team so don’t let them into the match and keep the work rate up.
The second half started and soon all plans went out the window. Within 5 minutes it was 2-2. Spartans continued to press for the remainder of the half and had ample opportunities to win the game. DB did however pass up a golden opportunity to grab the winner when a cross from Darius was just too high for Jordon to get his head on. Ben and Dan Keenan came on for the last 20 minutes and played well.

All in all a game of two very contrasting halves. We should have been several goals clear at half time, but we weren’t and given Spartans second half, they can feel aggrieved with only a point.

After the game a fantastic time was had – pizza, tequila and way too much beer. Definitely some sore heads on Sunday!

MOM: Matt Zoeller for an excellent performance at CB, was good to have him back and enjoying himself.

DOD: Despite a great performance and two great goals – by popular votes (thanks to his pals), Jordon gets DOD. Morse also in for a shout, for being pictured talking to his pizza – upon realizing that no one cares that Dudley is not Birmingham.
