This game was the last for the 2023-2024 league season and was the last game that Neil OL (O’Maonaigh-Lennon) will play for DBFC before leaving Hong Kong.

Discovery Bay F.C. started the match with dominance, controlling possession and nullifying any early threats from Godfathers. DBFC’s patient buildup play paid off in the 10th minute when Morse delivered a defense-splitting pass to Kieran McKnight, who calmly slotted the ball past the Godfathers’ keeper, giving DBFC an early lead.

Around the 20-minute mark, DBFC made two substitutions, bringing on Resco and Nigel. The changes had an immediate impact, as Resco doubled DBFC’s lead to 2-0 when his lung-bursting run from midfield got him into Godfathers’ goal box to meet Fouad’s precise cross and fire it home with a right-foot volley.

Despite DBFC cruising at that point, a defensive lapse allowed Godfathers’ to pull one back and reduce their deficit to 2-1 and from then on DBFC found themselves under pressure. However, against the run of play, Fouad made one of his typical mazy runs and finished with a shot into the corner, restoring DBFC’s two-goal advantage at 3-1. Godfathers continued pressing and just before halftime their striker scored a stunning overhead kick to bring the Godfathers back into the match with the half-time score 3-2 to DBFC.

From second-half kick-off DBFC regained their composure by keeping the ball well and restricting Godfathers’ attacking opportunities. However, as the half progressed, Godfathers began to threaten the DBFC goal area more frequently. Despite this, it was DBFC who got the next goal against the run of play and extend their lead. It was the result of some brilliant interplay between Resco, Kieran Mc, and French David down DBFC’s left flank that saw French David score his second goal in as many games, converting from close range to put DBFC 4-2 up. Again DBFC seemed to be in control of the game but with clock ticking down Godfathers pushed forward in search of goals to rescue their situation and with just 10 minutes of the match remaining they won a corner. The corner was met by Godfathers’ striker to divert the ball towards goal with a glancing header that DBFC’s keeper could only parry into his own net under pressure. This reduced DBFC’s lead to 4-3 and defender’s bums were starting to twitch. As the game drew to a close, both teams were tired in the humid conditions but Godfathers continued to push forward and they found the equalizer when their winger’s cross was headed into the bottom corner of the DBFC net for the match to end in a dramatic 4-4 draw.
