DBFC 45s 0-0 Godfathers

We went into this game knowing that we would win the 2022-2023 Legal League Over 45s title if we won our final 2 games. We arrived full of confidence with a strong squad but were greeted with the prospect of having to play on a full size pitch with 7 a side goals, the regular goalposts having been damaged during the weekend Typhoon 10. Given the pressure to get last season’s fixtures finished, we had little choice but to go ahead even though we knew that it would probably affect our game more due to the pressure to get 3 points. The game started in typical fashion with both teams evenly matched but finding it difficult to create chances. Our play lacked its usual fluency with out final ball not finding our man, or our first touch letting us down. Adam came on for Thierry late in the first half and had our clearest chance: a ball across the penalty area but Adam shot over the bar from close range with Godfather’s goal keeper (our old friend Gianluca) stranded. We managed to get all our other subs on early in the 2nd half, with Will starting to get some good possession in midfield. However we created very little other than Fouad finally getting a run at goal and shooting wide (the small goal not helping). Godfathers had a couple of efforts from long range which went over the bar but Mark was largely untroubled in goal, with Nik and Neil OL providing solid cover at CBs. A frustrating evening and we now have to hope that Godfathers get something out of their final game with Spartans and that we beat SIA in our final game.
