DBFC 45s 2-2 Spartans Immortals

Wednesday 4th November at Po Tsui Sports Ground KO 6.30p.m.

Squad: Mark/Gazza, Arch, Steve, Pedro/ Morse, Neil M, OB, Mike C/ Andy C, Scottie

Sub: Kieran C.

Scorer: Andy Clark x 2

After a number of late withdrawals, we coerced Gazza and Mike into late sign ups and got to kick off with 11, only to see a full size pitch and a Spartans squad that included 6 subs. Nevertheless we had plenty of quality in our modest numbers and were quick to match up to the always combative Spartans. Before most of us had touched the ball Andy put us 1-0 up with a long range shot over the keeper who had come off his line. We then played some good stuff and had to work hard to keep Spartans out. At half time we brought on Kieran C as our only sub for Gazza who was by that time looking forward to pipe and slippers. However within one minute of the second half OB pulled up lamer than Devon Loch (1956 Grand National) and back on came Gazza. We lost our rhythm for a while but then caught Spartans on the break with Andy finishing with aplomb (only just) from a Scottie cross. With 20 minutes to go we should have gone Mourinho but Spartans got back in it with a close range finish by their ex Polish international after we got caught in possession from Mark’s throw out. This set up a tense final part of the game – we were fast running out of legs and Spartans were making full use of their large bench. After a couple of near misses, Spartans finally got their equalizer after a very good cross to the far post was met by the big Pole despite the close attention of DB’s back line. So we had to settle for a draw but it was a very spirited performance. Again, Mark was secure at the back and quick off his line on several occasions to win his one on ones. Arch’s knees held up and he won all his personal duels. Some hard work in midfield to get up and down, particularly as we tried to keep Andy and Scottie as a 2 up front. Good effort lads against one of the better 45s teams we are likely to meet.
