DBFC 45s 5-3 USRC Socials

Friday 2 December at King’s Park K.O. 7.30 p.m

Team: Newly/ Kieran C, Pedro, Steve, Mike C/ Patric, OB, Morse, Thierry, Emerson/ Fela. Initial subs: Dirk, Jo, Nik, Adam.

We eventually managed to get a full squad with the help of Emerson and Nik from the 35s and welcomed back Thierry and Dirk after long absences. We are never quite sure what team we are up against at USRC but this was advertised as their “social” side. The game kicked off accordingly with DB controlling a lot of the possession but USRC keeping a well organized high line and catching us offside on multiple occasions. After about 20 minutes Emerson put us 1-0 up with a simple tap in after we finally got in behind their backline. We thought this would be the beginning of a comfortable evening and made 4 changes after 25 minutes to take off Thierry, OB, Patric and Emerson and bring on our subs. USRC soon capitalized on defensive errors and took a 2-1 lead in the second third of the game: first, a very decent cross from their RW about 25 yards out was met at the near post despite the attention of Pedro; then soon after a ball into their CF who “rolled” Pedro and hit a not particularly convincing shot from distance, with Newley disappointed not to stop it. But then with 1 minute to go until the second break, we were awarded a free kick on the edge of their penalty area – Thierry clearly didn’t fancy our chances and decided to bring himself on for Morse, and then proceeded to chip the ball up and over the wall to give the GK no chance. 2-2 at the end of the second third and another round of substitutions. USRC seemed to tire a bit in the final stages and we capitalized with 3 goals: a second for Emerson who at that stage was playing up front, a well taken first time chip over the GK by Nik from outside the area and finally Jo getting into an advanced position and scoring from close range. USRC scored in the final minutes to make it a more respectable 5-3 and hopefully earn us another invite for what is a premium Friday night fixture in our calendar.
