A great battling performance on Friday night to get a 5-0 win over USRC. It wasn’t as easy as the score line suggests and we worked really hard as a team to get the upper hand. We rode our luck a couple of times in the first half to go in at 2-0 up. The first goal came when Chris got the ball on the left of USRC 18 yard box and cut inside to let loose a curling shot to the far post that the URSC keeper made a full length save but only palmed the ball out for the in-running Darius (sharp as a knife) to slot home. The second goal was Chris again getting the attention of the USRC centre backs and Jamie B running off him. Chris flick on pass seem to run away from Jamie across the face of the USRC 18 yard box but somehow he got to it and hooked in a lovely left foot shot that crashed into the roof of the net.

The first 15 minutes of the second was continual pressure from USRC and true grit defence from DBFC. Then Dan Lye scored a worldly goal from about 28 yards out; a bullet into the keepers top left corner. That took the wind completely from USRC sails and DBFC took control to see out the game with two more goals. The first of these (4th goal) was when Chris was through on goal only to be chopped from behind to be awarded a clear penalty without any arguments. Up stepped Chris to take an awful penalty that a keeper in a wheel chair could have saved and the USRC keeper did just that. However, in a number of bizarre decisions by the referee he ordered it retaken because a USRC player entered the box before the ball was kicked. I suppose technically correct but not seen it done in the legal league when the guy just didn’t interfere with play. That decision followed Yanou giving a free kick away in his own box for holding the ball more than 6 seconds (it was 8 seconds at most). Anyway, Ingham was sacked as penalty taker and up stepped Dan Lye to coolly slot home. The next goal and 5th and last of the evening came when Chen ran through to collect a lovely cross field through ball, outpace the USRC defender and confidently slot the ball in at the far post.

At the side-line I can say that every player gave all and left every drop of energy on the pitch. Special mention to Darius for making the first 50 minutes before rushing to a bongo drum gig he was playing in (he had his drums at the side line), Sam for being a last minute call up to bolster the squad and Jordon for turning up after his late shift work for the last 30 minutes in case he was needed —- but he wasn’t to his relief so he could save himself for his debut appearance on Sunday with his new HKFA team. He undoubtedly picked up a few tips from the DBFC boys performance.

MOM: Jamie Bone for his work rate and managing to keep a lid on when he was getting booted all over the park and a goal to cap off a great performance.

DOD: Anyone that misses a penalty gets this award. Unfortunate though because Chris put in a shift and a half and 3 assists.
