This was the first of 3 in-a-row important league title games that DBFC must win against their nearest opponents, so we tried to get a very strong side out, and that we did. The kick-off time of 3pm at the back of beyond HKFA Jockey Club Football Training Centre didn’t help but a number of our top players made it, including new signing Quentin or “Q” as the younger lads know him from his football coaching activities. Also it was good to see Jordon, Ade and Crommy in the Legal league side for this game.

From kick-off DBFC pressed the Corinthians goal and although Corrs had a decent side out DBFC were relentless. However, after a number of one on ones and range shots were denied by ex DBFC keeper (Luca) with great saves, it was a Jordon Brown trade mark free kick that opened the scoring after 15 minutes. The second after 25 minutes was by Crommy with a pin point low driven shot into the bottom corner of the Corrs goal from 20 yards out. There were a number of other chances for DBFC; one was by Christian when he managed to sky a shot over the Corrs bar from 3 yards out after Crommy skinned 2 players along the by-line to pull back his cross on to Christian’s toe (shouts of “Tequila” reverberated around the pitch). It was the final kick in the first half that got DBFC 3rd goal when new boy “Q” slotted in a cross from 2 yards out following a flowing move by at least 5 DBFC players down the left wing. In all of this thrust forward DBFC defence had to remain switched on for many times a counter was launched by Corrs with a number of players getting up to supported. Morse and Matija at Centre-Backs and Christian and Will playing Full-Backs worked their socks off to keep attempts on Ricky (GK) to mostly range shots that he collected with ease.

The second half followed mostly the same pattern as the first with DBFC continually pressing and Corrs looking for something on the break. The main points of this half were the number of chances that DBFC missed and an unfortunate slip at the back to concede a goal when the score was 5-0. For the second week in a row it was Crommy that could have had a bag full if it wasn’t for a bit of bad luck and some fine keeping by the Corrs number 1 but credit to Crommy playing from midfield doing box to box at his ripe old age (bless his cotton socks). DBFC 4th goal came from Quentin when he collected Ade’s defence splitting through ball on the left and took it into the Corrs box to curl a rising shot around the keeper into the far corner. The DBFC fifth was following a corner that was cleared wide from the Corrs box, only to be sent back in and again cleared to about 25 yards out that Kafi ran onto and smacked the bouncing ball at waist height into the top corner of the Corrs net. It was from this point that one of Corrs’ up the middle long plays dropped into the DBFC box near the penalty area, which Morse had covered but as he swung his unfamiliar right foot at the ball he caught the ground, missed the ball and done a pirouette that was worthy of a standing ovation at the Bolshoi Ballet. Ricky came out to collect but was completely baffled by Morse’s comical performance that he hesitated enough to allow the Corrs striker to get a toe on it and send the trickling ball through Ricky’s legs into the DBFC goal. This mishap didn’t stop DBFC from searching for more goals and after more missed changes a great flowing passing move ended with a through ball into the right channel for Jordan Brown to run onto and fire a rasping shot across the Corrs keeper into the far corner of the net.

DOD: Josh and Danny have a shout at this for getting lost trying to find the pitch and missing kick-off. Also, Christian for missing a sitter that even Gazza could have finished. However, the Morseman surpassed this with flying colours by messing the return coach arrangements (wasn’t done) and his pirouette in the DBFC box.

MOM: a number of shouts at this one: Ade for calming and simple play in midfield and some telling passes, Crommy for endless energy and his goal, Jordon for his two goals. However, a spectacular debut performance from our new striker Quentin, who was always threatening the Corrs defence when he collected the ball and for scoring two goals.
