This venue is a long way for those working in town so a pain to get to, After a few drop outs
the day or two before the game and notice that 2 or 3 would arrive late, we only had 9
player 5 minutes before kick-off. This meant that the older of our squad, who had played a
full match the night before for our +45s team, had to start and play most the game, so a big
hats off to those guys that showed true DBFC spirit in going the extra yard.

The game got off to a bit of a ragged start with DBFC not able to keep possession, especially
in the oppositions half and in fact Kennedy Town (KTFC) were keeping hold of the ball better
and stringing their passes together but not penetrating the DBFC Vets back four, with new
centre-back Tita being an excellent addition to the squad, to partner Nin. Dom Polisano, the
long-time DB resident had retired from 11 aside football but needs be, he was there to help
DBFC when numbers were short, and he soon was showing his class with the ball. In fact, it
was Dom that bamboozled two KTFC defenders in the 18 yard box with silky footwork to
open a gap and strike the ball sweetly into the bottom left corner of the KTFC goal. That was
probably the highlight in a generally even first half.

At half time DBFC had their 3 extra (late arrival players) allowing hamstring Stephane, Simon
and Pedro to come off for a break. The fresh legs and energy immediately told and a ball
played through the back to Thierry and San in midfield was played down the right side for
overlapping Pui to get to the bar-line and fire in a low cross that Kwai met at full speed to
flick over the line. A fine team passing goal. DBFC Vets took the upper hand in the game and
had countless more chances but unlucky not to convert. Meanwhile, Bradders was less
called upon than he was in the first half and was seen pacing his goal, chatting to himself,
doing a Sudoku puzzle and having a cup of tea, such was the control the DBFC back four had
on the game. After 20 minutes Gaffa Gazza, gave Brendan a rest from flying up and down the
right flank and brought Simon back on. This change proved to be a management master
stroke because with 15 minutes to go Simon got to a through ball from Thierry and rifled a
shot into the far corner. DBFC Vets were very comfortable at this point and they passed the
ball around at ease but chance after chance was not converted until a stunner from San with
5 minutes left. KTFC were pressing and lost possession, the ball being quickly played from
the back by Dan to Thierry, through to Dom and back across to San, running just over the
half way line, who looked up to see the KTFC keeper off his line and stroke a beautiful high
long ball into the net for DBFC’s 4 th and final goal. Job done and 6 games played 6 games won
and DBFC Vets top the Legend’s League table.
