Discovery Bay FC, unofficially, has a long history.

Discovery Bay has been playing friendly 11 a-side vet’s games since 1991 which then was organized by DB Resident Andy Brooks. The first game was played in Causeway Bay.

DB resident Mike Collier took over in 1995 and organized games mainly against the Hong Kong Football Social teams (Dynamics, Gazelles, Rovers) and Sandy Bay Strollers. The DB 11 a-side vets team featured names such as DB resident Tim Bredbury (ex Liverpool) and Dejan Antonic (a former Red Star Belgrade and Yugoslav International as well as Head Coach of the Hong Kong National team at the time)

Robin Armstrong took over from Mike Collier in 2007 and besides the 11 a-side friendlies, he organised numerous 7 a-side friendly tournaments within Discovery Bay.

In 2008 Robin formed a Discovery Bay 7 a-side vets touring team to play in the Manila International Soccer 7s tournament which was held in February 2009.  The team was called Discovery Bay Rowdies who went on to win the tournament beating Team Bondi (A team of ex-professionals from Australia) in the final 1-0.

On the back of this momentous achievement, a Discovery Bay Vet’s team was invited to take part in the prestigious Hong Kong International Soccer 7s tournament. This brought about a change in name to Discovery Bay Football Club (“DBFC”).

In 2011, 2012 and 2013, Robin and Discovery Bay resident Neil Jensen entered a Discovery Bay Vet’s team in the Hong Kong International Soccer 7s tournament with the likes of Teddy Sheringham, Peter Beardsley, David Howells, Darren Anderton, Ian Baird and Tim Bredbury representing DBFC. Of the 4 appearances in this tournament so far, DBFC came closest to winning the Masters Cup in 2012 when we reached the semis, losing 2-1 to the eventual winners, the Ajax All Stars, having beaten another one of the favourites, The Citibank All Stars in the quarter-final.

Besides this, with the popularity of 7’s football in Discovery Bay, residents Stefan Fuchs and Dirk Haddow also formed a DB-based 7’s team, The HK All Stars, in 2009 to enter overseas tours, specifically in Thailand, and since 2009, the team has won three Masters Cup tournaments in Phuket.

Over the years, many of the players involved in Discovery Bay football 7’s and 11’s friendly football have also played together in the Hong Kong Legal League under a team called “Studz United” that was formed by Mike Weir and Andy Blank, also former Discovery Bay residents.

Now, with so many of the Legal League squad being residents of Discovery Bay, combined with DB based VETS Team, regular overseas tours with DB residents and the regular 7’s football that you see every evening at DBIS, it was felt the time was right to officially form Discovery Bay Football Club. (DBFC)

The 2014/15 season saw the establishment of the Hong Kong Legends League in which DBFC was one of the founding members of the 9 team league, eventually finishing 3rd.

The 2014/15 season also saw DBFC crowned Legal League Champions for the first time plus take the Plate at the end of season Legal League 7’s Tournament.

DBFC aims to promote adult football in Discovery Bay and position Discovery Bay as a competitive football community throughout Hong Kong and the region.

We are more than happy to promote any football related initiative that helps raise awareness of DBFC.
