A blistering hot day in Happy Valley, manager Bacon managed to talk Billy into water breaks. With a side short on numbers We were wary of the long kick from the J Leaguers keeper. DBFC started the game well, Scotty and Ollie linking well several times as Scotty narrowly failed to get on the end of a few through balls and unfortunately was closed down as he turned in the box. After another good run from Scotty we won a corner and from Rafas good delivery Ollie headed narrowly wide. Pat G after a last minute call up was marshalling the back line as he and Alessio won numerous headers and the two David’s stayed compact squeezing out any through balls well. As Tony Healy and Pascal held their positions well in the midfield and were tidy in possession DBFC were the better side in the first quarter. More of the sane in the second quarter as Rafa and Max worked hard down the flanks, we again looked dangerous down the middle and Gianluca just had the one smart save to make. Half time – unlucky not to be ahead.

Our tempo dropped for the first 10 minutes of the second half as the J leaguers had more possession without managing to break us down. Unfortunately on one of our attacks we lost the ball cheaply leaving the midfielders out of possession as they countered quickly and struck the ball into the top corner from 22 yards. We raised the tempo Ollie winning a free kick and corner around their box that both of which led to decent half chances. The last 5-10 minutes we huffed and puffed but couldn’t quite find the final pass undeserved 1-0 defeat.

The best defensive display of the season so far. Gianluca only had one or two good saves to make and some dangerous crosses to deal with. A special mention to Tony H and Pat G who filled in very well at center midfield and center back well today. Rafa put in a lot of yards and the back four and midfield were generally compact and tough to break down. Another day we take the chances we created or got on the end of some of those through balls but well done. Definitely a result to build on defensively.

Robbie.
