DBFC45s 3-0 USRC Vitesse

Friday 23 April at King’s Park, KO 9p.m

Squad: Newley/Neil Mac, Pedro, Steve, Ben/ Scottie, Baz, Simon, Patric/Hymnsey/Kieran M. Sub: Fela.

Scorers: Hymnsey, Kieran, Baz.

We arrived expecting USRC to be strengthened as ever by a number of younger players but from the outset it seemed that we were generally more consistent. We set up fairly aggressively with plenty of options moving forward but at times looking short in midfield whenever we lost the ball. Hymnsey got us going with an early goal from outside the area but USRC hung in there and had equal possession, mainly through their big CM. HT 1-0. Early 2nd half Kieran scored from a penalty after a soft hand ball decision to make it 2-0. To their credit, USRC did not give up and still looked a threat moving forward as the game became even more open. However Baz put the game out of reach with about 10 minutes to go, scoring from the angle of the penalty area after his cross/shot skimmed off their CH’s head. We never hit any heights in this game but it was a good solid performance, especially from Baz and Simon in CM who had to put in the hard yards to support our free wheeling front runners and protect our defence.
