Robin Armstrong back Managing a DB football team in England.
Robin Armstrong, one of the founding fathers of Discovery Bay Football Club and football generally in Discovery Bay, made time in his continuing battle against illness to take up another challenge; managing a 5 aside football team in a charity competition in Bournemouth, England on Saturday 18th February 2017.
Robin’s call-up to managerial duties was initiated by former DB resident and DBFC player Mark Berry, who had organised this charity football event to raise funds for PHAB (a charity supporting the Physically Handicapped and Abled Bodied people to socialise and do things). Mark’s team, The Tsing Tao Tigers, was formed with 4 other ex-Discovery Bay Residents and ardent footballers, two of whom, Stephen Morris and Jamie Webb also played for DBFC. The other two Nick Clifford and the lunch time legend “Disco Dave Deaton” were regulars at mid-week football on DBIS small pitch, although it is known that Disco dabbled in the Yau Yee League with Mobsters. Their goal keeper (Benny) is a local Bournemouth lad, who must have been eventually sick at listening to Hong Kong yesterdays from this reunion; probably the reason the team got knocked out in the semi-final J.
The lads all look well and I’m sure made Robin feel more than welcome. See if you can pick out the boys from the photo.
All at DBFC and I know the wider football community in DB wish Robin all the best —- as we do to the other old DBers.
