DBFC 3 – Bants FC 0

DBFC did not kick a ball to secure this win. It was courtesy of Bants FC forfeiting the game because they declared at lunch time Friday that they could not get enough players to face us. Our beating them 7 – 0 early in the season may have spoilt Bants appetite for the rematch?

This forfeit was disappointing news as DBFC had lined up a good strong squad for this fixture that was supposed to take place at 6:30 pm on the Happy Valley astro-turf and everyone was looking forward to some football. Feeling more cheated by this cancellation was Oli, who fancied getting a third hat-trick in successive matches, and Matt who wanted to add to his golden boot tally. Another disappointed player was Dirk Haddow who was due to make a rare appearance from the subs bench for the Legal League team. He too fancied getting on the score sheet —- so his wife tells me she heard all in his dreamsJ.

Notwithstanding the disappointment of not having a league game to play, the squad did not let this dishearten the camaraderie and many met at McSorley’s to watch the North London Derby, Arsenal v Tottenham, where Jonny was seen dancing with a grin ear to ear celebrating a Spurs win. However, it was the news that DBFC had gone to the top of the Legal League First Division, without having kicked a ball, which was the biggest compensation to a day without playing footy. The other 3 teams contending for the title stumbled; USRC Power drew 2 – 2 against Club Tropicana on Friday night and FWD FC had a shock 1 – 0 defeat against Spartans — thank you Spartans.

Our next game on the 28 February is against Spartans so we are not to let complacency set into our team. We still need to work very hard for each and every win.

Well done DBFC.
