This Chinese New Year get-together for everyone involved in DBFC was arranged since both teams had a long wait before their next league matches. It was also a great opportunity for the young guys to see the quality on display from the vets. A chance to rub shoulders with the legends, and learn a thing or two.

There was a good turn-out seeing as many were away with family for the week’s school holiday. But numbers were made up with guest players’ who are part of DB football. There were also a number of supporters there to watch this spectacle, namely Stu’s mum and Dirk’s wife and son.

The teams, selected by Robbie were of a mix of age and talent so to encourage an even competitive game. It was just coincidence that Robbie’s team (the whites) won 2 – 0.

The game was played in good spirits, was competitive and everyone enjoyed and felt they had been in a good football game. Some well needed fitness for many.

A few highlights of the night:

Robin refereed as a result of injury and did a reasonable job. He has finally found his position on the pitch J

New man to DBFC Steve McGurgan made his debut.

Guest players to the DBFC Legal League and Legends League sides were Andy Archer, Tim Bredbury, Jamie Bone, Toby and Sahil.

Travis made his debut as goal keeper on an eleven a side game with DBFC and was very good. He had told everyone since arriving in DB that he was a good GK and certainly showed that with his performance on and off the pitch!!! (to anyone who would listen, including the old lady who collects the cans and bottles in the plaza)

Nana, being a member of the whites’ squad on the bench, took charge as linesman in the first half and ruled out Sam Riley’s goal as being off-side. Sam was well off-side but Nana’s insistence on the call was very honest indeed. Sorry Sam.

The first goal was well worked down the right by Jordon to put in a low cross to Matt in front of goal for an easy tap in. The Legal League    goal scoring pair working to great effect.

The second goal for whites being a wonder strike by Jordon.

Jonny Haines missing an open goal for the blacks from 8 yards out after Oli squared to Scotty Holmes who squared to Jonny.

Good chance missed by Scotty Holmes to put the blacks in front.

Cans of cold beer waiting as everyone came off the pitch and a team DBFC photo.

Dirk’s birthday and another excuse to finish late in DB Plaza after far too many beers.

A good night had by all and comments afterwards that LL would beat Vets by double digits in an end of season game. Cheeky F&%^$$%!!!
