DB 45s enjoyed another goalfest against Mr. Koon’s ex pro team on Monday 4 December and came away with a respectable 5-5 draw. In view of a number of disputed offside calls in our previous game against them, and in the absence of any match officials, we agreed to proceed without playing the offside rule. We hoped that this would be to our advantage if we defended deep. Again, we did well to get an 11 kitted up and ready for this early K.O. In a friendly game of 4 quarters it was also an opportunity to rotate and give everyone good game time. We looked relatively comfortable for the first 15 minutes and then the pros took the lead with an unstoppable header from a corner. We responded well with Ricky equalizing just before the first break with a shot from the edge of the area. In the second quarter we nearly let the game slip away from us. The pros adapted better to the no offside rule and used their pace to get behind the defence to score 3 goals that would normally have had us calling for a VAR check. A sterner than normal talk from Manager Steve W at the second break resulted in us getting back into the game – first with a tap in at the far post by Ricky after Adam’s cross from the right and then a goal from Emerson and a penalty by Greg. In the final quarter the pros again took a lead after a cross from LW floated over GK Mark’s head to make it 5-4. Again we were not finished and Mumu equalized with about 8 minutes to play. However the early evening drama continued with Yin (playing for the opposition) giving away a penalty in the final minutes. With our perhaps more natural penalty takers appearing to step aside, Anago duly hit a tame shot that was comfortably saved by the GK. Honours even and a game enjoyed by all.
