DBFC 45s came up short in their league game against a strong Spartans side on Monday 11 December, losing 5-0. After 4 late withdrawals, a “no show” and with Will scheduled to arrive late, we had a bare 11 at kick off. Spartans started strongly and we had no answer to the direct runs of their quick striker who scored a hattrick. We put ourselves under pressure in the first half, giving up possession too often in our own half. Their striker (a just Under 45 who appears to be scoring goals for fun at this level) got himself into 1 on 1s on two occasions and finished both times. We were then a little unlucky to concede a third shortly before HT after their big lad Randy chipped Newley but should have been called offside. At HT we knew we had to compose but knew that we were capable of creating chances. Unfortunately, Spartans killed the game within 2 minutes of second half kick off with another finish from close range. To our credit we kept going and created a few chances of our own which would have made the score respectable. But Spartans scored a 5th after a cross from RW was met at the far post with an unchallenged header. A disappointing evening but always an enjoyable challenge against probably the strongest 45s team.
