DBFC 1 – 1 Spartans

An incident filled game in which DBFC let slip what should have been a comfortable win to leave with what is (league table-wise) a respectable draw.

Another hot day and the game started at a slow pace. As Spartans sat off, DBFC were guilty of wasting possession forcing the ball over the top and through the channels. Some good pressing by Andy down the left and good interchange between Scotty and Sam saw Sam poke the games first good chance wide. David then knocked down a deep corner that Pascal volleyed narrowly over. Half time 0-0.

DBFC with a new plan of attack started the second half well. As we moved the ball across the pitch Rafa hit in a dangerous early cross that Kieran got to ahead of their keeper before their defender caught and threw the ball out of the goal. Red Card (No. 1). Tony H stepped up to the spot and stroked it home in off the post. 1 – 0! A deep corner saw Travis loop a header into the bar. 5 minutes later our goal scorer barged into an elbow throwing Spartans player who kicked out at him. Both sent off (No. 2 & No. 3). 10 vs 9 the game continued DBFC making the advantage count as Kieran was put through only to round the keeper and slot wide. Rafa with all the space in the world down the right through on goal slipped in Scotty to score although celebrations were muted by the offside flag. The same combo this time Scotty free at the back stick headed over while Sam and Pascal had shots blocked.

A free-kick for Spartans was excellently saved by Gianluca before disaster struck. As Pascal was hacked off the ball by a Spartans player (the ref got out the second yellow but play continued) with loads of room down the left they crossed to an unmarked player who brought out two reflex saves from Gianluca but the second went in off the bar. 1-1. In the aftermath of the goal the player was sent off (for that yellow card). DB piled forward but were sloppy in the final third and failed to find the winner. 1-1

Man of the Match – Travis the debutant at CB produced a very solid performance while Gianluca deserves a mention for his two saves in the second half.
