DBFC were at their most unfavourable pitch for this game. Although it is very convenient to get to, literally 20 yards from Ocean Park MTR station exit A, it is very small; 94m long and 54m wide, as compared to Happy Valley Pitch 1; 92m by 60m and Pitch 2; 90m by 60m. The narrow pitch width makes play very congested and does not suit DBFC free open play style.

Gaffer Gaz warned the team of this congestion that would occur in Eagles goal box when attacking but the guys didn’t quite come to terms with it in the first half. From kick off DBFC pressed and got the ball into the Eagles box time after time but were guilty of trying to over play their passing when a quick shot or direct push was needed. The first half was all DBFC and it wasn’t until 10 minutes before half time that the break-through came when Leo was passed the ball in from the left by Krisna and took one touch before letting loose a great dipping shot from about 22 yards out into the top left corner of Eagles Goal. DBFC continued pressing and a couple of minutes before the half time whistle got a second goal when Krisna, playing on the left side picked up a pass from left back Leo and cut inside along the Eagles’ 18 yards’ line, dribbling past 2 players before drilling a low shot into the far corner to chalk up a great goal. So half time saw DBFC 2 nil up.

Half time was praise by Gaffer Gaz for the performance and asked the forwards and midfield to learn from the difficulties of the congested goal box and how shots from outside the oppositions goal box was the answer. More of the same work energy and pushing out by the defence was required in the second half to ensure Eagles didn’t get back into the game.

Second half started well with DBFC pressing again and chance after chance was created but not converted. Makito hit the bar with a shot and Nick B headed just over. Benji had a couple of shots saved by the Eagles’ keeper and Awal put a sweet low cross across the face of the Eagles’ goal which Makito and Nick just failed to get the touch to put it in. Team changes through this half in order to share game time disrupted the DBFC flow and consequently Eagles started getting more possession and pressing the DBFC defence, which started sitting deeper and allowing the midfield to drop in the back line. A couple of minutes from the end an Eagles low cross from their left was swung at wildly by Jimmy to clear but only succeed to slice the ball across to an unmarked Eagles player to rifle in a good shot across Diving Ricky into the far corner. The final whistle was blown with the score at DBFC 2 – 1 winners and Gaffer Gaz bemoaned on how the score line just did not reflect the DBFC dominance and chances made.

MOM: James – tidy in midfield throughout

DOD: Makito for the volley for a throw in, flicking up off one foot and hitting with the other
