DBFC played its first match in the cup competition on Friday night 21 May. The opponent was Legal Head from the second division.
DBFC showed their class from the beginning. Makito’s opening long pass gave us a corner within the first 30 seconds of the first half. Crommy floated a beautiful corner over to Tita who scored his second goal with the header in two games in a row. All thought this match would be an easy one but Legal Head fought back well hitting several shots on target. Our goalie Rickie was as sharp as always denying all the attempts. DBFC struggled to find its top form but Ethan again made a difference as he dribbled into the box and finished off making it 2-0 in the first half.
Some changes were made into the second half as youngsters came onto the pitch bringing energy and intensity. We created many chances throughout the second half with Ethan, Enzo and Krisna constantly posing threats to the opponent and attempting to get another goal. Danny once again played a pivotal role in mid chasing relentlessly and playing simple tiki-taka passes. The highlight tonight could be the worst (or best) miss in history of DBFC when Krisna missed a wide open net and floated the ball over the crossbar. Legal Head had several chances to score but the solid defense kept a clean sheet. With 10 minutes remaining DBFC’s striker Ethan once again carried the ball into the box and scored a double tonight. The final score was 3-0.
DBFC seized a comfortable win in the first round of the cup competition and extended the winning streak to 3. Unfortunate was Makito who picked up a minor hamstring injury (he’s determined to come back within a week or so). We still have three more league games this season including a match against front runner USRC Gunners. Stay healthy everyone and DFBC will finish strong this season!
