Managers Morse and Scotty struggled this week to get a squad out but all turned out fine after new signing Pius (Kafi’s mate) and Syd were late confirmations and these two lads were instrumental in helping DBFC to keep their winning ways to stay on top of the division 1 league table.

AFC Forward played this game with only 9 players and were very well organised, making it difficult for DBFC to break down their defence and finish the first half only 1-0 up. During this first half DBFC hit the woodwork 3 times (Jordon free kick that hit the corner of post and bar, Jordon floater over the keeper from a tight angle that hit the base of the far post and came straight back in same direction and A Jamie Bone shot on the run that just didn’t dip enough to sneak under the bar) and had 3 very good shots saved full stretch by the Forward keeper from the boots of Danny H, Scotty and Matt H. However, the Forward keeper couldn’t do anything to stop Jordon Brown’s thunderbolt shot from 19 yards out. DBFC didn’t have it all their own way, with Forward breaking a number of times to get decent chances on the DBFC goal that were thwarted by either good last tackles or Ricky (GK) being on his toes alert to collect.

In the second half DBFC changed formation to 4-3-3 to rest full control of the midfield (Matt H, Syd and Jamie) and keep Forward pinned back with 3 attacking players (Jordon, Kafi and Pius). This immediately worked and DBFC pressured the Forward goal constantly but the goal wasn’t coming. Then, disaster when one occasional Forward breakaway and hesitancy in the DB 18 yard box resulted in 2 Forward players causing problems and the ball to break loose for the Forward left back, getting up to support, rocketing a low shot just out of reach of Ricky.

This seemed to spur DBFC into action and they pressed again for the goal with a bit more urgency and authority in passing and movement. Forward were getting tired and with 20 minutes left, Kafi got on the end of a through ball to coolly slot it in the net for DBFC to be 2-1. Five minutes later it was DBFC’s debutant Centre Forward (Pius) that had some fast short interplay to score and make it 3-1 to DBFC.

Forward throw caution to the wind, as best they could with 9 men, pushing to get another goal but this exposed them to DBFC counter attacks and on a couple of occasions DBFC should have done better by scoring. Then a moment of magic when there was only 10 minutes left to play. Young Josh Brown, who had come on to run the right wing and was pumping in a few very good crosses, received the ball wide and lined up to curl his cross away from the Forward keeper. However, some greasy Vaseline left on Josh’s right boot caused his cross to curl the opposite way and completely fooled the Forward keeper, who could only watch the ball sail over his head into the far corner. Josh could be heard, while running around the pitch celebrating, shouting “I meant that”. Whatever Josh, it was a great goal!

A good number of us made the long journey back from Tuen Mun to the DB Ferry Pier Bar to celebrate a good win.
