DBFC returned to Po Kong looking for a repeat performance. Rocked in the lead up to the match as the ever-reliable and tenacious Pascal broke his ankle on Thursday night (hope you have a quick recovery mate). Then late on Friday, David Rollinson revealed he had to work in Macau on Saturday and had to pull out. The mighty Baz Brown stepped up and into the squad. As an under the weather Robbie hustled and bustled round HK in search of Gaz’s ID card, Baz took the DBFC warm up, putting the boys through their paces.

The match kicked off and DBFC started with the same pace they had exhibited against Spartans. Pressing from the front Robbie cut in from the left and narrowly failed to find Jordon coming in from the left. Seconds later a hooked ball in behind put Matt clear but his effort over the keeper also cleared the crossbar. Jordon then cut in well from the left, driving to the edge of the box before scuffing his effort wide. More good work down the left from Steve, Robbie and Jordon saw Matt have a tap in 4 yards out only for the Goodfellas keeper to save well. The pressure was telling and from one of many corners Stu charged in like a bull at the back post to power his header home. 1-0. Goodfellas continued with their long ball game-plan and off one knock down their striker rattled a shot against the bar. DBFC responded as Matt was released clean through on goal only for his attempted lob to go over the crossbar. Good pressing down DBFC’s right from Jonny released Robbie on the edge of the box who was unceremoniously taken out (the Goodfellas player fortunate to stay on the field having already been booked). Robbie stepped up and curled an effort inches wide of the near post with the keeper beaten. More pressure down the right released Robbie again and he crossed early for Jordon to rifle his finish in off the underside of the bar. 2-0. DBFC were undone again by a central long ball as the assistant brought play back for what was a dubious offside. Jamie and Stu were controlling the midfield and the pressure brought two more free-kicks from the right edge of the box. The first of which Steve slammed into the wall, and the second Jordon clipped well over the bar. At the end of the half Stu powered in again at the back post but saw his header and then follow up well cleared off the line by the covering defenders. Half-time 2-0

Half time team-talk was largely positive. The focus was on taking out chances to ensure that we put the game to bed. The defence was also warned to be more aware of the long ball through the middle, especially the second ball. No immediate substitutions and DBFC went again.

The second half started much the same as the first with DBFC pressing resulting in all the pressure. Rafa took a throw from the right and Robbie turned his marker before bending an effort narrowly wide from a tight angle. Robbie and Jonny came off to be replaced by Baz and Morse (with Rafa and Steve moving into midfield). Good interplay between Jamie, Jordon, Stu and Matt released Jordon on the edge of the box only for him to drag his shot wide. In an almost identical move moments later Stu flicked the ball through for Matt who kept this effort down to score. 3-0. DBFC continued the pressure and after a succession of corners Christian climbed to head home. 4-0. Goodfellas long ball was knocked down into midfield and a great thirty yard effort hit the crossbar before going over. With DBFC tiring a little Goodfellas looked more threatening on the break and it told as Baz made a good challenge on the edge of the box but could only clear into the Goodfellas striker who rounded Travis, his cross rebounding off Baz’s thigh and onto his hand for what was an incredibly harsh penalty. The penalty was slotted home, in off the post. 4-1. Jordon cut in from the left and hit a great ball in behind that Steve smashed over. Final whistle. 4-1

Man of the Match – Another very good performance from DBFC, particular mentions go to Jordon Brown for his goal and two assists and to Stu and Jamie for a strong battling display in the middle of the park. However, the man of the match for the second week in a row goes to a defender, this time Steve who won header-after-header and bombed forward down the left to great effect, unlucky not to get a goal his performance deserved. Also a thank you to Sam for coming down and supporting.

Dick of the Day – Baz Brown took a great warm up, and that might have just saved him this week after spoiling his good covering work by clearing to the Goodfellas and then giving away the penalty (even if it was harsh). Robbie & team are candidates for losing one of Gaz’s treasured DBFC balls, only one made it back into the bag. However, this week it goes to Travis for the combined trio of calling Robbie minutes before the taxis are due to depart to ask if he could bring along a non-existent spectator, being last out the changing rooms with only 8 minutes to kick-off and for flat out refusing to share the subsequent lost ball with Baz for the warm up. Slow DOD week.
