DBFC Vets 0-0 BTDT
Monday 10th December, KGV, K.O 9:00 p.m
Squad: Toni/ Nick H, Morse, Steve, Miller/ Kieran C, Mike C, Sean C, Steve R/ Brendon, Ariel. Initial subs: Gazza, Patric, Fela, William.
With many of the younger vets deciding to sit this one out, it was a fairly unfamiliar team that fielded against an eager looking BTDT squad. We recognized a few of them, including their powerful Marcel Dessailly lookalike in CM and ex DB Vet Nick Dum up front. BTDT dominated for the first 20 minutes, a few efforts going wide with Toni not troubled too much. We then got more into the game and realized that we were capable of getting a result. Our steadfast late arrivals Patric, Fela (wearing tights that made him look like a sunburnt zebra) and William came on after 25 and we enjoyed our best passage of play. We were in confident mood at half time, with only one change being made as Gazza came on at RB. The second half did not offer much for the headline writers and the in-match betting was always on a scoreless draw. Toni pulled off an excellent save low to his left with 15 to go. Brendon came close at the other end, Fela tried his hardest to get the ref to show him a card to match the colour of his tights, but it was a game that got what it deserved. No lack of effort and team spirit from DB, much more positive vibe than our last outing. Last word to our official senior citizen Gazza who no doubt spent his 30 minute taxi ride back to DB with tales of how he surged forward in the final minutes, dropping his shoulder (“stumbled”) as he went round their midfielder and… the rest is fake news.
MOM: Sean in midfield, working tirelessly to keep their CM quiet – and Morse at CB, mouth mostly shut and studs rarely showing.
