Two weeks on from our last win against USRC, we arrived in a confident mood with a squad that had increased from the bare 11 to 15 in the lead up to the game. So the Manager’s initial dilemma was to schedule a set of rotations that would give everyone at least two thirds game-time, whilst keeping a consistent shape and strength to the team. USRC as ever had a number of younger lads in their team but this didn’t stop us last time out.

The game started promisingly, with plenty of possession in USRC’s half, with USRC only looking a threat if we gave up cheap possession and allowed them to break. Kieran M put us ahead after about 10 minutes after a precision ball from Kieran C at RB. However, not long after, we lost possession in a dangerous area at RB/RM and allowed their striker a 1 on 1 against Mark, which he finished well. Either side of that, we were comfortable in all areas of the pitch but unfortunately missed a number of chances to put the game out of the reach. We managed to get on our 4 subs after 25 minutes without disrupting the general flow of the game but at HT we were wondering why we had not killed the game. 2nd half started well enough and then we made our final round of subs at 60 minutes. Immediately Scotty put us 2-1 up with a good finish after Simon’s through ball. However we then somehow allowed USRC back into the game and our possession moving forward became erratic. USRC pulled one back with a close range finish after we failed to clear in our penalty area, and then USRC went ahead with a shot from outside the area which deflected off Arch. I am not sure how we lost this one – the rotation policy doesn’t always work but we need to remind ourselves that we are a bunch of old men playing social football.
