Hong Kong Football Club under the lights!

There must be a reason that for the second consecutive time, DB Vets conceded a goal within the first two minutes, and without touching the ball! HK Dynamics scoring from the penalty spot. The game settled following that early goal, with DB creating a number of one on one chances, but not able to finish. Gianluca’s excellent evening in goal saw him produce save after save during this period too. Probably against the run of play, a ball straight through the middle, gave HK Dynamics their second goal. Won’t go into full details, but let’s just blame a huge bobble that left an open goal for the opposition!

Two nil down after 20 mins, things weren’t going to plan!

An enforced change at the back due to Archer’s shoulder / arm / side injury, and other substitutes came quickly. DB Vets continued to play, and create chances. One if these chances saw a cross finished well, with Pat heading into the bottom corner. Heading towards half time DB continued to go forwards, and a push inside the box, saw the referee award the second penalty of the night. Tim took his captain’s responsibility, and slotted into the bottom right corner.

At half time score was 2 : 2.

The second half started off following the same pattern as the first, with HK Dynamics having plenty of the ball. As mentioned, Gianluca was having one of those evenings where he wasn’t for passing though. DB Vets were still very much in the game, and with Baz sat just in front of the back four breaking up play, created the better chances. Joao took one of those, cutting in from the left hand side, and finishing well to put DB Vets 3 : 2 ahead. This lead could have been extended, following a powerful run from Baz, but due to reasons he would only know chose not to pass to Robin who was screaming for the ball on the wing. If only!

Gianluca continued to stop everything that was thrown at him, but with 20 minutes of the 2nd half gone, DB gave away a soft penalty after Pat handled handled the ball while trying to clear. Even though Gianluca saved the kick, in the scramble following, the ball ended up in the net. Maybe an own goal, but we’ll wait for the video footage to determine if fines are dished out ….

With 10 minutes to go, and the game all square either side could have won it. It was HK Dynamics though who scored the final goal. DB, not for the first time in the game, lost the ball cheaply at the edge of HKFC’s box when in a great position and the counter led to the ball being laid off for their midfielder to pick his spot and hit a 30 yard screamer in off the post.

Final score HK Dynamics 4 : Discovery Bay Vets 3

MOTM : very easy one; Gianluca.
