DBFC 0 – 2 J-Leaguers

Saturday 3rd March 2018 at Kowloon Park Pitch No. 2 with 16:30 pm kick-off

Squad: Toni (GK), Rodders (RB), Christian (CB and Captain), David (CB), Morse (LB), Steve Lang and Pascal (CM), Darius (RM), Matt Mills (LM), Scott H (#10) and Matt Z (CF). Subs: Nathan Sharp and Jamie (late arrival)

This was Christian’s last game for this season as he now returns to Aus to continue his education and DBFC were looking to get a win to send him on his way in style. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case. Sorry Christian!

Gaffer Gaz knew a number of his first choice players wouldn’t be available for this game but still had a squad of 15 players with enough balance to get a win. Knowing that 2 players could do first half only and 1 other only wanted a part game because of other football commitments.

However, with only 8 players changed and ready with 10 minutes till kick-off, 3 more showing with minutes before kick-off, one player literally at kick-off, one more player 10 minutes after kick-off and two other players messaging to say they will not be coming; things just weren’t feeling good for Gaffer Gaz and this bad feeling unfolded in front of him, as it was a very disappointing loss for DBFC to an average J-Leaguers team. J-Leaguers discipline and desire to win was better than DBFC’s and they deservedly won.

It was 2-0 at half time after J-Leaguers scored a soft free kick that keeper Toni seemed to be wrong footed and then a cross from the J-leaguers’ winger, who evaded the attention of 3 DBFC players, was ran into an open goal by the J-leaguers mid fielder.

The second half was much better for DBFC but still not firing correctly and apart from a 10 minute spell at the beginning of the second half DBFC didn’t threaten the J-Leaguers goal. The DBFC defence was generally very good, especially in the second half.

This DBFC performance was defined by a lot of ill-discipline, a lot of aggression and verbal towards the referee (who was making a lot of wrong decisions) and poor quality football on a very small old type astro pitch. This was a day to be forgotten and to quickly move on to the next game.

MOM: Gaffer Gaz selects Christian because he exemplified how a player should perform in a game of football. He give 100%, kept control of his frustrations and emotions and in doing so showed respect to the referees, his own players and the team manager. He gave it all and tried hard to enjoy his last game (this season) for DBFC.

DOD: A load of possibilities: Rodders for forgetting to pack his football strip (luckily he remembered his boots), Toni for letting in a really soft free-kick, Zoeller for declaring he wanted to play CF so he didn’t have to run around much to save himself for a football match later that evening and tomorrow, Bungle for going on a 20 km hike in the hot sun before turning up for an important match, Morse for constantly mouthing off in the first half and David for a bellowing howl into the 5ft 5ins J-leaguer’s keepers face for no apparent reason. However, the award has to go to Jamie Bone for getting a red card (2 yellow cards for venting his frustrations)) that costs him $500, turning up 10 minutes late and looking as though he’d been out the night before until 4 am.
