A good turnout for this early KO. The pros opted for 4 quarters of 20 minutes and so everyone managed to get 60 minutes of game time. We started with a 3-5-2 in the hope that we could get more numbers higher up the pitch. The obvious risk was some exposure in the full back areas and this was the main threat for the first 20, using a quick right winger up against our senior citizen. However the game plan generally worked pretty well and we had more than our fair share of possession in the opposing half. The pros were as ever a mixed bag with ages ranging from about 25 to an unbelievable 78, with an ageing defence and mobile midfield. The pros went ahead during the second quarter after Mark saved a long distance shot, but their forward pounced on the rebound to tap into an empty net. We stuck at it and had our own near misses but without easy chances. The pros put the game to bed in the final quarter after a clever through ball into the penalty area allowed their forward to get one on one with Mark and square the ball for a simple tap in. Some very decent performances from DB: Mark gave us a solid platform from the back, new signing Simon injected some “youth” and pace into back line and our front 6 all put in some hard yards. An enjoyable run out played in a very friendly spirit.
