DB45s 4-3 Spartans Over 45s
Friday 25th January at Happy Valley Pitch 4, 8pm KO.

After a difficult time getting a side out against Godfathers, we played safe with this one and ended up with a (too) big squad for a Legal League fixture of 35 minutes each half on Happy Valley’s small pitch. We struggled to adapt to the small spaces for the first 20 minutes but still went 2-0 up – the first from the left foot of Kieran McK, showing all the signs of an indulgent Christmas break; the second, powered (stumbled?) over the line from 1 yard by debutant Resco after a cross by Kieran C from right wing. Spartans started to get going at this stage, mainly under the direction of their tall CM who was not getting closed down enough. They scored 2 in quick succession, the second of which by Hymsey who, having exhausted all of his witty repetoire with DB, had signed for Spartans. Half time came, with most of the time being spent on how to juggle our line-up to accommodate Fela’s unplanned and Fouad’s planned late arrival. Spartans came out stronger in the second half and took the lead with Fela equalizing almost immediately from close range. Fouad, fresh from his warm-up game at HKFC, was making a difference with his runs forward but it was Kieran McK who grabbed the winner with 10 minutes to go with another decisive left foot finish. All in all a good outing for the 45s as we test ourselves against other teams of senior vets.
MOM: Bradders in goal did a good job and we might have struggled to win without him.
