It was a cold, windy and drizzly evening for this match on the Po Kong Village Park Road pitch 2 at the top of Diamond Hill but this didn’t stop DBFC firing off the new year in style with a resounding win against an out of sorts Hong Kong Krauts team. Decent numbers for DBFC with 3 lovely WAGS braving the miserable weather to watch their men do battle.

DBFC started this game well in control and phases of good passing play result in continued pressure on the Hong Kong Krauts goal, with their keeper pulling off a couple of good saves to deny an early break-through by DBFC. Many corners were forced and it was from a corner that the first goal came. Jamie Bone had 3 great in-swinging corners in a row that was causing panic in the Krauts goal mouth and it was the third corner that David met with the side of his head in-front of the Krauts keeper, who managed to block on the line but David followed to bundle the ball over the line.

DBFC continued some good passing play but the final touch seemed to be lacking. After 25 minutes JB came on for Rolph and was straight in with an assist. Good play down the right, involving Rodders, Darius and Pascal, culminated in JB playing the ball through to Chris, who was free on the edge of the Krauts box, to drill a shot into the corner of the net, giving the Krauts keeper no chance.

With only 5 minutes until halftime, Darius got past the Krauts left back and to the byline to fire in a low cross to Chris at the back of the 6 yard box and as Chris loaded up to blast in a certain goal the Krauts centre-back took him out. The referee didn’t blow for the penalty immediately, as the ball rolled through to Jamie for a shot on goal, which missed in the side netting. The penalty was awarded and JB duly smashed it into the top netting to make the score 3-0 to DBFC at half time.

Half-time team talk was for more of the same and not to ease up thinking the game is won as we wanted Yanou and the defence to finish with a clean sheet. Yanou had taken a knock towards the end of the first half and aggravated his hip injury but would carry on. Rob Collier came on at centre-back for Robbie and Tom was to warm up to enter the fray in 10 minutes.

DBFC were straight back with the pressure from the start of the second half. JB collected the ball outside the Krauts box to dribble past a couple of players and Chris Ingham blazing through shouting for the pass, which was late and Chris turned away cursing from his offside position, while all the Krauts defenders stopped confused at what was happening. JB immediately followed his own pass to get there ahead of the Krauts keeper and round him to slot the ball into the net to make it 4-0.

After 10 minutes Darius came off, Jamie moved to right mid, JB to left-mid and Tom in behind Chris at number 10. DBFC were quickly back up to speed with Tom linking well with JB and Jamie on the flanks. JB particularly was making minced meat out of the Krauts right back and after 20 minutes of the second half JB got his hat-trick when Morse sent a pass down the left wing for Jordon to spin past the Krauts Right back and round the covering player before being tripped in the box for a clear penalty, which he took and scored confidently to put DBFC 5-0 up.

Rodders had to come off after the fifth goal because of a dead-leg he sustained from an earlier Krauts challenge so Darius was straight back on to fill the right back role. Not long after this change DBFC’s sixth goal came from a Krauts own goal when their centre-back made a back pass that was chased by big boy Ingham and the keeper, obviously worried at the on rushing herculean figure, missed his kick and the ball ran under his foot and into the net.

With 15 minutes left to play Rolph came back on to replace Chris up front and immediately after Krauts got a free kick at about 23 yards from the DBFC goal. The free kick was driven over the DBFC wall and limping Yanou shuffled to dive and make the save but landed on his injured hip causing further problems. Chris Ingham straight back on to replace Yanou for the last 13 minutes in which he was called on to do real keeper duties as Krauts pushed for a consolation goal. Not least to save a shot from a Krauts’ free-kick in the very last minute of the game that assured the final score was 6-0 to DBFC.

This was a great performance with great attitude and work rate from all the DBFC players and HK Krauts were made to look very ordinary. There was some very good football at times to the credit of all DBFC players. As usual a strong showing at the Pier Bar after and the beers tasted particularly good.

MOM: Many contenders for this; Matt H and Pascal for their non-stop work in centre-midfield on a huge pitch, Rob Collier making his debut and putting in a confident performance at centre-back. However, a man that gets a hat-trick gets the award; a sparkling performance by Jordon Brown.

DOD: possibly Jamie for his 10 minutes of fat lip at the start of the second half, Rodders for providing more evidence to Chris that Vegans always come off injured and Morse for declaring in the Pier Bar that “the Krauts’ right back is thick —– because he works at our place” suggesting his company only employ thick people —- slip of the tongue obviously cos we all know Morse has an O-level. Anyway given a glittering performance by all and weak DOD claims, this award will be shelved this week.
