DBFC 1 – 2 Spartans
Happy Valley Pitch 2 @ 4:30pm kick-off on 2nd September 2017

Scorers: Jordon direct from a free kick.
Our season didn’t start as we would have wished; going down to a very average Spartans side.
We were by far the better team in the first half but just converted 1 of at least 4 great chances – 3 great stops by the Spartans’ keeper.
Our goal came from a fantastic free-kick by Jordon.
But in the last second of the first half we didn’t deal with a Spartans’ corner that bounced around in our box and fell at the feet of a Spartans’ player who toe poked it to trickle towards the goal where Jordon was stood at the post. Jordon kicked out to clear it off the goal line bur the ball came off the underside of his boot to squirm in over the line. The goal was against the run of play but in at half time with the scores 1-1.
Then maybe my fault for the second half in making so many substitutions —– we had 6 subs to get on and 3 lads I’d not seen play before. The subs did well but being unfamiliar in the team and in their positions DBFC just lost momentum and Spartans took the upper hand with their long balls into the box. We didn’t create much in the start of the second half and with about 15 minutes to go Spartans’ tricky forward got latched onto a through head to skip past our last defender and finish well.
I brought back on the young guns and they battered Spartans for the last 15 minutes and were unlucky a number of times not to equalize — but luck wasn’t with us.
We let this one slip and lesson learnt, particularly with managing substitutions.
MOM: not clearly one on this disappointing performance.
DOD: clearly Jordon for being asleep on the far post and to wake up with a fresh air swing at a slow motion ball coming towards him on the goal line.
